Support the NHS Counter Fraud Authorities' investigation teams and external partners by delivering training in digital evidence analysis. Develop investigator understanding of eDiscovery workflows and analysis techniques using the NHSCFA's review platform. Support the NHSCFA's Digital Forensic Unit by undertaking evidence handing, auditing and other tasks to ensure the unit can deliver expert assistance to NHS fraud investigations.

Main duties of the job

Deliver training to both internal and external investigators on utilising the DFU’s e-Discovery Platform, FTK Central, in compliance with NHSCFA procedures.

Assist investigators in the usage of the e-Discovery platform to ensure effective investigation of digital material in compliance with operational and legislative guidelines.

Deliver further training and inputs regarding digital forensic best practice, seizure of digital exhibits and development of digital forensic strategies.

Represent the NHS Counter Fraud Authority in meetings and training sessions with external agencies.

Provide advice to investigators regarding evidence acquisition and ongoing processes for identification, coding and reporting of evidence.

Contribute to training content, ensuring guidance provided is accurate and to a very high standard.

Develop learning materials to assist investigators in applying learning to their operation of the e-Discovery Platform and handling of digital evidence

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support DFU operations by conducting technical and quality tasks to ensure effective provision of DFU services, as directed by the Digital Forensics Lead.

Perform maintenance activities as directed by standard operating procedures.

Audit DFU technical activities to ensure compliance with the Forensic Science Regulators Code of Practice, ISO17025:2017, ILAC G19 and any information security requirements as directed by the Quality Manager.

Support onsite investigative activity, either in person or remotely as and when required. Flexibility is required as this often requires working outside standard office hours.

Collect, transport, and store digital exhibits, as required to support DFU customers.

Produce statements to a standard suitable for use in criminal or civil court.

Testify in criminal and civil court as required, on actions taken regarding handling of evidence.

Perform any other tasks as necessary to support DFU or NHSCFA operations as directed by the Digital Forensics Lead.

Specialist Knowledge

Demonstrate knowledge in at least some of the following areas / operating systems - : File servers (Microsoft / Apple / Unix / Linux) : Networking (IP / LAN / WAN / Firewalls) : Email servers and clients. : Mobiles OS (iOS, Android, proprietary) : Peripherals (e.g. removable media, CD/DVD etc) : Computer OS (Microsoft / Apple / Unix / Linux) : File systems (FAT / NTFS / HFS+ APFS etc). Extensive knowledge in one or more of the following FTK, EnCase, Axiom, Cellebrite Inspector, Digital Collector, UFED or Oxygen forensic tools Demonstrable knowledge of current best practice in obtaining electronic evidence Thorough understanding of issues surrounding the proper handling of evidence within an investigatory environment.

Desirable criteria

Working knowledge of programming/scripting in EnScript, Python, SQL or similar language. Working knowledge of Exterro LAB/ /FTK Central or similar Ediscovery platform

Experience

Significant experience in digital forensics, training or similar role. Practical experience of undertaking digital forensic investigations. Practical experience in exhibiting evidence and producing witness statements suitable for Crown court. Practical experience of training, sales experience or other role requiring presentation to external stakeholders.

Qualifications

Degree or equivalent in Digital Forensics or equivalent experience working within a digital forensics environment or Information Technology training role.

Desirable criteria

Either hold any of the following professional qualifications or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and experience. For example: • Microsoft Certified Professional (M.C.P.). • Access Data Certified Examiner (ACE) • EnCase Certified Examiner (EnCE).

Communication Skills

Demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to communicate complex information persuasively, both orally and in writing, with people at all levels and across professions.

Other Skills

Demonstrate the ability to prioritise and manage own workload to deliver operational objectives. Demonstrable understanding and track record in promoting equal opportunities and diversity. Ability to work to agreed deadlines and standards, manage conflicting priorities, work with minimum supervision and develop solutions for overcoming barriers to progress. This requires high levels of enthusiasm, self-motivation and adaptability.
